In order to assess the influence of water stress on development Sphaeropsis sapinea cankers in Pinus halepensis, stems 4- 5-year-old potted seedlings were artificially inoculated with fungus before and after being kept at controlled regimes from April 1997 March 1998. pre-water-stress inoculation experiment, canker length, measured 5 months (September 1997), was greater predisposed extreme deficit (midday needle potential between −4.5 −5.5 MPa). post-water-stress 1998, irrigation had enabled resume normal potential. this case also, inoculation, longer visible that been subjected deficit. These findings suggest occurrence marked stress, although apparently tolerated by Aleppo pine, can enhance S. species, regardless whether occurs or infection fungus.
