摘要: Abstract Keeling plots of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) concentration and Δ 14 C depth profiles imply rapid, diapycnal transport DOC to the meso- bathypelagic zones, but do not constrain mechanism redistribution. We review 2-component plot model, present an alternative formulation explicitly based on homogenization water parcels. Applying this new model inorganic (DIC) suggests that dominant controls redistribution differ throughout column. gradients were consistent with biogeochemical processing in epipelagic advection mesopelagic. Vertical insufficient for further interpretation bathypelagic. Ultimately, additional concurrent measurements DIC concentrations values column at more locations are needed applicability two-component mixing models marine DOC.
