摘要: Unique to South-east Asia, Lao People's Democratic Republic contains extensive habitat for tigers and their prey within a multiple-use protected area system covering 13% of the country. Although human population density is lowest in region, impact occurrence areas on tiger Panthera tigris populations was unknown. We examined effects human-carnivore conflict abundance distribution Nam Et-Phou Louey National Protected Area Lao-Vietnam border. conducted intensive camera-trap sampling large carnivores at varying levels monitored carnivore depredation livestock across area. The relative ungulates low throughout whereas that small significantly higher where lower. estimated sample ranged from 0.2 0.7 per 100 km². Tiger lower disturbance were greater. Three factors, commercial poaching associated with grazing followed by depletion competition between carnivores, are likely responsible distribution.
