摘要: Misuse of supraphysiological doses anabolic steroids is claimed to have serious side effects. The aim the study was determine mortality, and cause premature deaths among a group subjects who are strongly suspected used for non-medical purpose over several years. mortality 62 male powerlifters placed 1st-5th in weight series 82.5-125 kg Finnish championships during 1977-1982 compared with population controls. 12-year follow-up 12.9% 3.1% control population. By 1993 eight 34 1094 controls had died, thus risk death 4.6 times higher (95% CI 2.04-10.45; p = 0.0002). causes were suicide (3), acute myocardial infarction hepatic coma (1) non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (1). These findings add growing amount evidence an association between steroid abuse death, support view that measures decrease AAS misuse both competitive amateur athletes justified.
