摘要: Reaction of the slowly penetrating organic mercurial compound parachloromercuribenzene sulfonate (PCMBS) with intact erythrocytes has been characterized. Addition concentrations PCMBS which result in binding within interior membrane more than 1.9 × 10−18 moles/cell produces alterations Na+ and K+ permeability, but does not affect choline permeability. However, increased cation permeability is observed only after a lag period over two hours. After ten hours, spontaneous slow “recovery” to normal rates leakage occurs at 25°C 2°C. Subsequent effects on balance, increasing degrees hemolysis occur, interpreted as colloid osmotic lysis. The relationships between agent its are follows: small, rapid initial uptake permeability; subsequent slower associated Na+; recovery desorption about half due competition by soluble thiol substances released into medium from cells. Desorption can be mimicked any time addition small amounts protein medium. that cannot desorbed assumed bound hemoglobin inside cell. sulfhydryl groups involved control constitute fraction total (4–18%). They located separated cell diffusion barriers PCMBS.
