摘要: Since data are accumulating that seem to dispute the role of O/sub 2//sup -/ as a potent agent biological damage, study previously ignored conjugate acid, perhydroxyl radical (HO/sub 2/), transient species always formed in presence H/sub 2/O, was undertaken. The results systematic studies reaction rates HO/sub 2//O/sub with number biochemicals function pH tabulated. indicated 2/ reacts faster than all compounds, and conditions such its is assured. linoleic acid (a C/sub 18/ unsaturated fatty 2 double bonds) studied detail using from generated by photolysis oxygenated alkaline ethanol solutions special apparatus described. present work does not answer question whether oxidation probably other polyunsaturated acids can lead but it be assumed now most obvious sites for damage plasma intracellular membranes.
