摘要: We developed rainproof track stations to index sciurid abundance. Track were effective at detecting presence of a species and provided useful abundance in two validation efforts. In the more rigorous validation, we documented correlation indices (our catch-per-unit-effort, CPUE) with population size Abert's squirrels ( Sciurus aberti ) as estimated by mark-recapture methods on eight 60-ha plots April August 1996. The (number visited) was correlated highly both r = 0.983) 0.924). Both trap less powerful statistically than estimates differences among seasons but did detect large without unacceptable Type I errors. Compared live-trapping, results time, expensive easier deploy field, caused no mortality animals, eliminated exposure technicians diseases transmitted rodents.
