摘要: Abstract Five subspecies of markhor are said to occur in Pakistan. One subspecies, the so-called Chiltan markhor, was found be a wild goat ( Capra hircus ), and other four were reduced two, straight flare-horned markhors. We made survey status distribution throughout range species Pakistan relied mainly on literature for information animal Afghanistan, Russia, India. Markhor prefer fairly dry terrain near cliffs they avoid deep snow cold temperatures. These habitat requirements have restricted their mountains below altitudes 2200 m winter. Excessive hunting has populations small, often isolated remnants. The total number eastern Chitral, Dir western Swat districts Pakistan, estimated at around 1500. Farther east, along upper Indus its tributaries, perhaps twice as many more (excluding some 250–300 India). This number, coupled with efforts by governments protect remnant, makes prognosis survival good. Most straight-horned south Khyber Pass tribal areas which no wildlife laws. Reduced small scattered populations, comprising possibly fewer than 2000 individuals, future this is tenuous.
