摘要: This chapter provides historical context to the biotechnology landscape of Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). Under Soviet system, innovation systems were state-based extremely interventionist, during transition there was a policy vacuum economic instability that threatened their future. However, biotechnological have emerged from relatively unscathed. Questions remain about how CEE countries engage with new knowledge conditions come EU accession development. It seems most in region not embraced governance agenda are expert-led, sometimes unable marshal effectively global many technologies, national scientific, cultural advantage. Contributions this volume also suggest dynamics around biotechnologies similar respects other countries, but shaped, like contexts by local politics.
