摘要: The effectiveness of tropical grass species in strips different length trapping sediment from cropland was assessed, and the influence filter determined. assessment made under natural rainfall which induced sheet rill erosion run-off plots then using simulated caused concentrated erosion. evaluated grasses were elephant grass, lemon paspalum sugarcane. Run-off on a 10% slope randomized complete block design replicated three times. Filter lengths 2.5, 5 10 m against 10-m-long source area planted with maize clay loam soil. results show that (TE) increases nonlinearly increasing for all grasses. Under rainfall, more than 70% trapped first 5 m, lengthening strip to only resulted marginal increase TE. With run-off, 5 m significant Paspalum performed significantly better other (P < 0.05), owing their spreading growth pattern over soil surface. also has highest root density upper 0.3-m layer followed by hence offering greatest resistance flow. demonstrate provide viable means reducing flux cropland.
