Children's Repeated Lies and Truths: Effects on Adults' Judgments and Reality Monitoring Scores

摘要: Deception research has not taken into account that children are often interviewed repeatedly about their experiences. This study is an experiment concerning adults' (n = 88) ability to correctly detect deception and truth in (11-year-olds), who had watched a live show by magician, or invented such event. The overall accuracy (59%) was significantly better than chance, line with previous research. three most frequent self-reported cues were, order, consistency between the child's statements, confidence, richness of detail. Truth-telling were more prone make both omissions commissions deceptive children. reality monitoring technique able discriminate truthful accounts. theoretical applied implications results discussed.
