摘要: Abstract. In the Appendix to his classic two-volume work, “The Natural History of Carolina, Florida and Bahama Islands…”, Mark Catesby (1747:19, Pl. 19) described illustrated doradid catfish “Cataphractus Americanus”. The names “Cataphractus” Americanus” are not available from pre- post-Linnaean editions Catesby's work (i.e., Catesby, 1747; 1754; 1771) including Edwards' (1771b) Catalogue appended third edition. Linnaeus (1758), however, cited in description Silurus cataphractus, a species currently valid Acanthodoras Bleeker 1862. Based on this study original illustration, is newly assigned Platydoras 1862, rendering polytypic type series cataphractus Linneaus 1758. Consequently, BMNH 1853.11.12.193 [ex.
