Origins and migratory patterns of bats killed by wind turbines in southern Alberta: evidence from stable isotopes

摘要: Large numbers of migratory bats are killed every autumn at wind energy facilities in North America. While this may be troubling from a population perspective, these fatalities provide an opportunity to learn more about bat migration and the origins summer distributions by using endogenous markers. Such markers include stable isotope values, which have been used answer questions ecological systems, such as trophic levels food webs, routes animals. To estimate bats, we determined nitrogen (δ15N), carbon (δ13C), hydrogen (δ2H) values fur (δ15Nf, δ13Cf, δ2Hf, respectively) hoary (Lasiurus cinereus) silver-haired (Lasionycteris noctivagans) facility southern Alberta, Canada.
