摘要: Stem cells provide a potentially unlimited source of for treating plethora human diseases. Regenerative therapies retinal degenerative diseases are at the forefront translation to clinic, with stem cell-derived pigment epithelium (RPE)-based treatments age-related macular degeneration (AMD) already showing promise in patients. Despite our expanding knowledge cell biology, methods deriving cells, including RPE have remained inefficient. Thus, there has been push recent years develop more directed approaches therapy. In this concise review, we summarize efforts that successful improving derivation efficiency by directing differentiation from pluripotent using developmental cues important normal specification and maturation vivo. addition, potential obstacles clinical discussed. Finally, review how induced (hiPSCs) provides vitro models studying mechanisms disease discovering new avenues treatment.
