摘要: In an article previously published in this journal (Hamel, 2007) the author contradicted patriarchal paradigm which has guided domestic violence research, intervention and policy for past three decades. The current critically examines two major alternative models, beginning with post-patriarchal/ asymmetry paradigm, acknowledges that most intimate partner abuse consists of “situational” or “common couple” violence, is conflict-driven, relatively minor consequences, initiated by women as well men. However, model incorrectly assumes men perpetrate overwhelming majority severe abuse, known “battering” “intimate terrorism.” concludes a discussion gender-inclusive model, holds should draw upon all available data. According to latest mutual, emotionally control one another at approximately equal rates, terrorists are equally likely be male female, suffer one-third physical injuries, males females affected emotional abuse. short, human relational problem, not gender problem.
