摘要: We report initial findings from a household survey of Pacific island migrants and their remittances, conducted in 2010-11 New South Wales (NSW). The study covers three Polynesian communities, Samoans Tongans as previous studies, but also Cook Islanders. cover both Sydney regional NSW. quantify remittances all types, formally informally transferred, distinguish those sent to households organizations (mainly churches) or invested, beyond the migrants’ home country household, which account for almost 40% total remittances. provide first estimates Islands since mid-eighties, areas Australia. investigate number potential socio-economic determinants remittance behavior including income, duration absence, strength ties country, major events identify important differences among groups, between Riverina- Sydney-based communities. Areas further research this dataset are identified.
