摘要: A Staphylococcus xylosus C2A gene cluster, which encodes enzymes in the pathway for choline uptake and dehydrogenation (cud), to form osmoprotectant glycine betaine, was identified. The cud locus comprises four genes, three of encode proteins with significant similarities those known be involved transport conversion other organisms. physiological role products confirmed by analysis deletion mutants. fourth possibly codes a regulator protein. Part cluster shown transcriptionally regulated elevated NaCl concentrations as inducers.
