摘要: Introduction: It is increasingly clear that the HIV response will not be sustainable if number of infections significantly reduced. Discussion: For two decades, research has been ongoing to identify new behavioural and biomedical strategies prevent infection. In past few years, efficacy several demonstrated, including oral pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP; i.e. daily use tenofovir/emtricitabine). Because social, political logistic barriers remain, however, optimalPrEPimplementationwillrequireabetterdisseminationofnewevidenceinanumberofareasandadditionalimplementation from various disciplinary perspectives (i.e. social science, policy ethics; health systems; economics, cost- effectivenessstudies). Discussion ofnew evidenceonthosetopics, as wellas casestudiesofpotential PrEPimplementation indiverse environments, can improve understanding role PrEP may play in addressing global HIV/AIDS epidemic. light these needs, Network for Multidisciplinary Studies ARV-based Prevention (NEMUS) World Health Organization (WHO) were honoured co-organize a special issue JIAS aimed at contributing scholarly discussion current conditions surrounding implementation, potential impact efficiency, science concerns study implementation specific country cases. The papers included this monograph cover many main aspects complex yet promising discussions around today. Conclusions: This collection timely contributions leaders addresses geographic diversity, uses trans-disciplinary approach covers variety issues raised by PrEP.
