摘要: Background : Acute pediatric poisoning represents a frequent cause of admission to the emergency departments. This descriptive and retrospective study was conducted in Birjand, eastern Iran, with aim evaluating pattern this region. Methods: During 6-year period from 21 st March 2006 20th 2012, all files pediatrics poisoned patients admitted department Vali Asr teaching hospital reviewed data were recorded pre-designed form. The results analyzed by relevant statistical tests. Results: period, 246 cases (41.1% female 58.9% male) diagnosis acute poisoning. mean age 37.6 +/-32.64 (range: 0.06-156) months. majority poisonings occurred children aged about 2 5 years. most common agents involved opioids (39.43%), pharmaceuticals (22.76%) envenomations (15.9%). Most living urban areas (56.91%). There significant correlation between older intentional (P<0.01). also correlations toxic agent either season (P<0.0001), or patients’ residential status (P=0.008) consciousness (P<0.0001). Moreover, we introduced Majoon Birjandi as new literature. Conclusion: opium terms morbidity mortality Health authorities should consider preventive programs regard. Majoon-e-Birjandi be considered region, which is not previously reported
