Non-syndromic hypodontia in an Iranian orthodontic population

摘要: To investigate the prevalence, characteristics (ie, malocclusion, location, type), and sex distribution of hypodontia in an Iranian orthodontic population. A retrospective study was conducted using periapical panoramic radiographs models 1,751 subjects attending university clinics (870 females, 881 males, age 9-27 years). The Chi-square test used to analyze differences hypodontia, after stratification by malocclusion type. total 197 congenitally missing teeth were observed 160 patients (9.1%; 74 boys 86 girls); there no statistically significant between sexes (Chi-square = 0.832, P 0.36). Hypodontia more common with Class III (45.2%), prevalent maxilla (71%) than mandible (29%). Maxillary lateral incisors (35.6%) maxillary second premolars (13.0%) most commonly teeth, followed mandibular (9.6%) (8.2%). prevalence higher anterior segment (incisors canines) posterior (premolars molars). oligodontia 0.34%. frequently accorded findings studies other countries.
