摘要: Diamond is a unique material with outstanding physical and chemical properties. Among these are very unusual properties of the diamond surface; i.e., its negative electron affinity when hydrogen terminated (i.e., 'negative work-function') p-type 2D electrical conductivity it shows (when exposed to different atmospheres). These make choice for fundamental study variety electron-emission processes as well their application, on nano-scale, point cold devices various nano-size electronic devices. The uniqueness surface, discussed. Results emission electrons from induced by an external electric field (field emission) electron-impact (secondary ion-impact (ion-induced electron-emission) reviewed. Modifications nano-scale single ion-impacts localised fields (from STM tip) demonstrated. Stunning results huge ion-induced rapid degradation presented explained. possible application utilising surface resulting quantisation discussed enabling realisation low dimensional (line point) including sources nano scale
