摘要: A method is described by which candidate repellents can be rapidly screened and evaluated comparing them with a standard repellent or each other. Mosquitos are confined in petri dish, of the top covered mosquito gauze bottom lined two semicircular filter papers, one treated repellent, other repellent. The dish placed an apparatus through passes slow stream air temperature humidity. Counts mosquitos taken every half minute on above halves jarred after second count to change position mosquitos. total 40 counts taken, being rotated 180° 20th count. index reaction determined as mean excess records for over those one. initial effectiveness persistence various have been compared. In tests against Aedes aegypti (L.), repellency N, N-diethyl-m-toluamide O-chloro-N, N-diethyl benzamide did not differ, but significantly exceeded that dimethyl phthalate (DMP). loss DMP time was approximately linear. Attention drawn aspects applications method, its advantages, particularly rapid screening repellents.
