摘要: Two experiments examined pigeons' generalization to intermediate forms following training of concept discriminations. In Experiment 1, the stimuli were sets images dogs and cats, transfer head/body chimeras, which humans tend categorize more readily in terms head part rather than body part. 2, heads computer-generated morphs. both experiments, pigeons learned discrimination quickly generalized with some decrement novel instances categories. tests carried out generated from familiar exemplars sets. performance, unlike that human infants exposed similar stimuli, was best predicted by stimulus when chimeras formed exemplars. Spatial frequency analysis showed parts richer high spatial frequencies parts, so these data are consistent hypothesis categorization is dependent on local features humans. There no corresponding trend morphs used, response rates declined smoothly as proportion morph contributed positive fell, although results again less orderly.
