摘要: It has recently been proposed that the frequency of dividing bacterial cells (FDC) can be used to predict growth rates natural aquatic assemblages. We have examined relationship between FDC and rate in bacteria from southern-temperate, coastal marine waters by using incubation under conditions manipulated nutrient availability exclusion bacterivores. The regression logarithm instantaneous (μ) on resulted a better fit than untransformed μ FDC. equation was ln = 0.299FDC − 4.961. coefficient variation for predicted at mean 7%. range FDC-estimated generation times Georgia 12 68 h, calculated production 0.6 17.6 mg C·m−3· h−1. Unresolved problems suggested improvements method predicting are discussed.
