摘要: I used stable isotope methods to track the diets and habitat use of five sympatrically breeding Alcid seabirds throughout three stages reproduction. Eggs, nestling tissues were also collected in order examine differences between items selected for provisioning offspring those self-feeding. This sampling protocol permitted an experimental field-based validation isotopic discrimination whole blood, which revealed that conventional lab-based estimates this central parameter (-3.4%0) are >200% higher than calculated here (-1.06%0). Using these estimates, show sympatric Alcids can differ stages, as well adults offspring. These results have implications designing marine protected areas, predicting effects climate-change, considering evolutionary relationships foraging
