Narrative structure in humorous novels: the case of "Lucky Jim"

摘要: The phenomenon of laughter, its causes and effects, have inspired thousands pages speculation from the times Plato Aristotle to present day. Although subject is, in general terms, an elusive one, relatively recent work (dating 1970s onwards) on humour joking seems established certain characteristics which define conditions are necessary for creation appreciation verbal humour. In this article I shall illustrate by reference Kingsley Amis' Lucky Jim, a novel has been amply recognised as excellent exponent humorous genre, how type attitudinal positioning cognitive processing inherent jokes can influence narrative structure novels. Before go any further, would like point out that when speak "humorous novels" refer fictional works overall effect, one mentioned above, those written Tom Sharpe, William Boyd's A Good Man Africa (1981) or Stars Bars (1984), John Kennedy Toole's Confederacy Dunces (1980), mention but few, not "serious" novels with elements them.
