摘要: Flammulated Owls (Otus flammeolus) are recognized as a sensitive species because of uncertain population viability and potential effects anthropogenic manipulations their ponderosa pine (Pinus ponderosa) forest habitat. During 2005 2006, I radio-tagged monitored habitat use 24 in central Idaho. evaluated selection at five different scales with used-available design. determined that owl densities my study area were 0.34-0.43 territorial adult males/40 ha. At the landscape level, owls selected south east-facing aspects, middle to upper slopes ridges, areas intermediate cover. home range scale, higher density standing dead trees (snags) but showed high variability other characteristics. did not detect for characteristics scale nest or vegetation surrounding nests. large day roosts, and, when roosted Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) trees, often they medium-sized trees. below it is possible tolerance conditions has enabled Owl populations persist despite historical widespread alterations principle mature forests.
