摘要: In this chapter, the core perspectives and theoretical framework guiding research are introduced, drawing on literature, a heuristic is proposed within which questions addressed. The chapter begins by discussing symbolic interactionism then turns to key analytic concepts how they have evolved, assessing motivations for caregiving from both Asian Western perspectives. A review of different ways governments manipulated support care discourse through social engineering legislation followed limitations motivation. Thereafter, Arlie Hochschild’s (The managed heart: commercialization human feeling. University California Press, Berkeley, 1983) theory emotion work presented explain daughters accommodate competing demands inherent contradictions professional employment family responsibilities resolve inner conflicts over parent care.
