The cross-cultural adjustment of EFL expatriate teachers in Taiwan

摘要: This study investigates expatriate English teachers’ cross-cultural adjustment in Taiwan. Cross-cultural theories and the differences between Chinese Western culture are reviewed. Both qualitative quantitative data were collected order to develop framework for study. The process was examined across three facets of adjustment: general, working interaction with host nation. based on Black, Mendenhall Oddou (1991) develops an empirical model native Englishspeaking expatriates who work Taiwan as teachers. successfully implemented by means questionnaire interview a literature review. key findings this are: 1. Expatriate job satisfaction, age, previous crosscultural experience their motivation or purpose coming factors which affect intention stay 2. Mandarin Taiwanese language ability has significant effects daily activities social life outside terms general adjustment. 3. training teachers could improve living conditions 4. possessed undergraduate degree had more difficulties relationship school management.
