摘要: Sleep is a state of immobility characterized by three key criteria: an increased threshold arousal, rapid reversal to alert state, and evidence homeostatic "rebound sleep" in which there increase time spent this quiescent following sleep deprivation. Common European cuttlefish, Sepia officinalis, show states quiescence during they meet the last two these criteria, yet also spontaneous bursts arm eye movements that accompany changes chromatophore patterns skin. Here we report rapid-eye movement (REM)-like cyclic nature. Iterations REM-like 2.42 ± 0.22 min (±SE) alternate with 34.01 1.49 sleep-like state. These for durations lasting 176.89 36.71 min. We found clear (i) occurs animals younger than previously reported; (ii) follows ultradian pattern; (iii) includes intermittent dynamic patterning, representing fragments normal patterning seen waking wide range signaling camouflage; (iv) shows variability intensity expression skin between within individuals. data suggest cephalopods, are molluscs elaborate brain complex behavior, possess resembles behaviorally vertebrate REM although exact nature mechanism form may differ from vertebrates.
