摘要: The 2004 Sierra Nevada Forest Plan Amendment adopted by the U.S. Service called for using adaptive management — through deliberate experimentation to carry out treatments to improve forest health and reduce fire severity. Sierra Adaptive Management Project (SNAMP), begun in 2005 ending this year, has developed, implemented evaluated participatory processes in two national forests applying fuels based on strategically placed patterns of tree thinning. SNAMP participants include federal state agencies, University California many members public. UC Cooperative Extension staff have played an important role facilitating participation public stakeholders. In 2010, a survey showed that stakeholders valued learning opportunities project, especially appreciating open discussions, public input face-to-face contact with scientists. Despite institutional limits sharing decision making, environment conducive social characteristic collaborative adaptive projects was created. process may lead long-term relationships knowledgeable who can support Service's use project findings after UC's ends.
