Emotions and the body in Russian and English

摘要: The goal of the present paper is to examine Wierzbicka?s (1992, 1998a, 1999) claims that connection between emotions and body encoded and emphasized in Russian a higher degree than it English, English favors adjectival pattern emotion discourse, while prefers verbal one. The study analyzes oral narratives elicited through same visual stimuli from 40 monolingual Russians Americans. results quantitative and qualitative analyses narrative corpus support claims, suggesting ?the reading body? not culture- language-free experience, but shaped by cultural, social, linguistic forces, as well individual differences. At time, neither quantitative nor differences have been identified with regard gendered use discourse.
