摘要: International research indicates that decreasing speed limits in urban areas is a reliable means of reducing traffic injuries/deaths. This project synthesizes the literature around limits, and questions why SA remain at 60km/h when international good practice suggest lower levels offer improved protection for all road users. The has two distinct components: first development comprehensive discourse about role crashes, proven effects speeds on injury levels. second involves qualitative evaluation positions attitudes authorities South Africa (engineers policy makers) to determine knowledge, practical obstacles may influence adoption limits. shows there only partial appreciation safety benefits achievable through reduced Further, among those professionals who reflected an awareness such internationally appears be degree skepticism Arica would bring similar benefits. suggests knowledge how limit reductions can work – indeed have worked - reduce possibly limited.
