摘要: Hepatitis E virus (HEV) is an enterically transmitted human pathogen, with some similarities to caliciviruses. A variant of HEV was recently identified in pigs the USA, infecting almost 100% animals commercial herds. Phylogenetic analysis suggests that this a true 'swine HEV' distinct from virus, but swine may also infect man. Using in-house ELISA based on highly conserved, recombinant protein, we have examined collections sera Australian for evidence infection local pig Sera one research herd (n = 32) were uniformly non-reactive, and used establish assay cut-off (= mean + 3 SD reference serum reactivities). Screening other herds demonstrates present Australia, reactivity observed 30% (12/40) random samples two piggeries, 92-95% by age 16 weeks piggeries 45), 17% (15/59) wild-caught pigs. Further studies are required examine whether causes disease determine risk transmission
