摘要: Myeloperoxidase is a lysosomal enzyme found in high concentrations human lung due to recruitment of neutrophils. activates benzo[a]pyrene as well aromatic amines tobacco smoke and generates carcinogen-free radicals. A single base substitution (G A) the promoter region myeloperoxidase gene has recently been demonstrated markedly reduce transcription. We developed an RFLP/PCR assay test hypothesis that allele favoring lower transcription (A allele) reduces risk cancer. Among population controls, 7.8% 459 Caucasians 9.4% 244 African-Americans inherited two copies allele. with A/A genotype were at 70% reduced cancer (odds ratio, 0.30; 95% confidence interval, 0.10-0.93; P = 0.04; 182 cases). lesser reduction was observed for this 0.61; 0.26-1.41; 157 Individuals who inherit may be decreased
