摘要: A combined histological, metallurgical, and clinical study has been made in 19 instances where a surgical operation had performed to remove titanium implant used the treatment of disease or trauma man. All implants were static devices such as pins, plates rods. Histological examination nonosseous tissue excised from adjacent was supplemented by estimation its content neutron activation analysis. The results indicate that some patients can be liberated into implants. The phenomenon occur absence corrosion fracture implant, is unrelated possible liberation wear particles an artificial articular surface. There variation individual amount, if any, released. In case those showing release, suggest local release metal, subsequent accumulation tissue, patchy process at site. histological features reaction are described. No conclusions have drawn concerning effects on osteogenic response insertion overall state bone time their removal. From records it apparent considerable caution needed before concluding cause clinically significant effects. Although may occurred minority patients, this possibility no means proven. distinction must between “metal reaction” sense sense.
