摘要: Abstract Two species of Prosopis, Prosopis juliflora and pallida, native to Central America northern South America, have been widely introduced are now found throughout the world’s hot arid semi-arid zones. However, these frequently misidentified, especially where introduced, hampering genetic improvement effective management. Samples from trees previously identified as either P. or pallida were divided into two groups by multivariate analysis using selected foliar characters. One group contained known tetraploids other diploids. It was concluded that tetraploid diploid correspond respectively. Triploid individuals also identified, first report in genus Prosopis. A dichotomous key developed differentiate species, number interfoliar glands per rachis, leaflet pairs pinna length. grown seed collected within their respective ranges correctly key. Where samples Burkina Faso, Jordan India confirmed juliflora, but those Brazil, Cape Verde Senegal rather than assumed be naturalized countries. The correct identification will facilitate management pallida. There is a strong case for basing future selection programs on juliflora. Further collection evaluation therefore required, together with conservation range.
