摘要: This paper identifies breakpoints for various power and propulsion technologies, with a special focus on fission-based sources in support of NASA's Mars exploration program. Transportation, orbital, surface missions are addressed through an assessment architecture developed this study. is based three key considerations; decomposition generic into phases, lumped parameter approach, bounding case analysis. With these simplifications identified beyond which new such as nuclear fission power, required to achieve mission objectives. It found that in-space generation sized by launch vehicle delivery limits trajectory options. Similarly, levels surface-based reactors affected transportation system EDL imposed current technologies. After summarizing the today's state art, development targets enable space-based systems perform at their full potential.
