摘要: Abstract We developed a quantitative in vitro model of catheter infection. Colonization was initiated by inoculating the lumen with small number bacteria (approximately 5 x 10(3) viable organisms). Then inoculated catheters were used for simulated total parenteral nutrition therapy consisting infusions 9 h day, and counted effluent fluid against time, enabling us to monitor colonization quantitatively. Bacterial prosthetic devices is progressive process, as evidenced slow day-to-day increase bacterial release seen here. On other hand, strains various representative species exhibited significant differences their ability infect catheters. These results suggest that presented here reliable tool monitoring degree under standardized conditions could be further studying main factors catheter-related sepsis or treatment this information.
