摘要: Abstract Female Periplaneta americana cockroaches emit two cooperatively working pheromone components, periplanone-B (PB) as a long-range attractant and periplanone-A (PA) short-range arrestant, males develop enlarged glomeruli for processing them separately in the first-order olfactory center. Using intracellular recordings neuronal labelings, we found that Turkestan cockroach, Blatta lateralis, which is phylogenetically close to P. but having adapted inground habitats, has an extraordinary large glomerulus. This caused by drastic enlargement of PB-responsive glomerulus not PA-responsive during late nymphal stage. The output neuron from macroglomerulus sensitive both PA PB, at dose only 0.1 fg. Nevertheless, B. lateralis never exhibited courtship rituals response presentation periplanones or natural sex antennal contact with females. Our findings indicate unique behavioral ecology habitats are related functional unification system, opposite differentiation often underlies species diversification.
