摘要: Abstract OBJECTIVES We studied the expression of intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM-1), vascular cell (VCAM-1) and endothelial selectin (E-selectin) on aortic valve endothelium in patients undergoing replacement. also assessed relation between serum levels changes following surgery. BACKGROUND Nonrheumatic disease is believed to be a degenerative condition. Increased tissue soluble are described inflammatory conditions. METHODS Aortic valves from 22 surgical (16 bicuspid, 6 tricuspid) autopsy (4 normal, 2 thickened) cases were by immunohistochemistry. Soluble molecules measured peripheral blood preoperatively, at 18 months postoperatively, compared with controls. RESULTS The majority surgically removed tricuspid bicuspid expressed (E-selectin, 75% 100%; ICAM-1, 80%; VCAM-1, 69% 60%, respectively). normal postmortem did not express these, while diseased ones did. Endothelial E-selectin correlated strongly (r = 0.695, p 0.004). significantly higher baseline controls (p 0.017) fell postoperatively 0.005). CONCLUSIONS Adhesion supports an component “degenerative” disease. may main source elevated this condition as correlate fall postoperatively.
