The morphology and ecology of Dipolydora armata (Polychaeta, Spionidae) from the western Mediterranean Sea. — Acta Zoologica (Stockholm) 82 : 177‐187 cosmopolitan spionid is a dominant species epifauna on Thais haemastoma shells in Some characters, particularly number, thickness arrangement notopodial spines, were extremely variable among specimens. Three morphological forms distinguished based general appearance bundles spines; one form possesses at least bundle stout whereas medium spines or thinner acicular characterise other forms. Differences prostomial shape, as well extension caruncle, artefacts (preservation angle observation). present study supports D. rogeri junior synonym armata. was regularly found inhabited by hermit crabs ( Calcinus tubularis , Clibanarius erythropus ) damaged, empty shells. Abundance, dominance, size frequency, occurrence larvae regenerated specimens varied, possibly result fouling strategy recurrent settlements.
