Teaching for Scientific Literacy? An Examination of Instructional Practices in Secondary Schools in Barbados

摘要: This study examined the extent to which instructional practices of science teachers in Barbados are congruent with best for teaching scientific literacy. Additionally, through observation practice, it sought determine teachers’ demonstrated role classroom, their demonstration learning discourse, goals and nature classroom activities. Five hundred nineteen students from 12 23 secondary schools on island 15 across 8 participated study. Data were collected by means a questionnaire, an observational schedule field notes. It was found that while problem-solving questioning mainly used use experiments among least popular strategies. results showed display knowledge characteristics literacy unsatisfactory. Generally, findings indicate gap between as expressed literature current classrooms Barbados.
