摘要: Abstract The feed bunk attendance patterns of six crossbred beef heifers (averaging 481±22 kg) and steers 471±44 being fed an 80% steam-rolled barley grain:15% silage 5% supplement diet were monitored for 52 days using a radio frequency (RF) system (GrowSafe ® Systems Ltd., Airdrie, AB). was validated by three methods: (1) comparing the duration feeding visits recorded RF against those calculated from video surveillance data; (2) data provided two separate transponders carried single animal; (3) documenting relationship between actual time. When one considered ability to monitor presence or absence animal, total daily error in 6% as compared videotaped data. Incidence errors due interference false antennae readings 2.4 3.6%, respectively. concluded be highly effective tool attendance. Feeding durations documented animals bearing correlated, averaging 88.4±1.5 84.5±1.5 min day −1 ( R 2 =0.96). Frequency also correlated Approximately 84% time spent consuming feed; 16% on non-feeding activity. On average, cattle made 29±11.8 , with 55.8% associated activity 44.2% These observations suggest that may better indicator animal’s intake than at bunk. Future studies GrowSafe other systems do not automatically record should incorporate correction factor relate Factors identified could introduce system. include non-grounded, metal material (connected loop configuration), particularly when area.
