摘要: Abstract The development of morphology from pellet-sized particles to submicrometre droplets during the polymer blending process is investigated for several blends. In order determine at short mixing times, a model experiment developed that allows matrix be dissolved away so dispersed phase may observed directly using scanning electron microscopy. experiments an amorphous nylon. phases include polystyrene, oxazoline functional styrene-maleic anhydride copolymer, polyester and polycarbonate. These dramatically reveal primary modes particle deformation nature morphologies times. major reduction in domain size occurs conjunction with melting or softening components. initial mechanism involves formation sheets ribbons phase. become unstable due effects flow interfacial tension. Holes develop ribbons, which grow concentration until fragile lace structure formed. breaks into irregularly shaped particles, are then broken up nearly spherical particles. This results very fast small dispersed-phase same as those long Continued action primarily reduces largest distribution. kw ]blend; development; microscopy
