摘要: We present current data from acoustic Doppler profilers (ADCPs) moored on the continental slope off west coast of India. The were collected at four locations (roughly Kanyakumari, Kollam, Goa, and Mumbai) extending ∼ 7° to 20°N during 2008–2012. observations show that a seasonal cycle, including an annual is in West India Coastal Current (WICC); this which strengthens northward, shows considerable interannual variability not as strongly correlated along climatologies based ship drifts or altimeter. alongshore decorrelation WICC much stronger intraseasonal periods, are evident winter monsoon all coast. This south. A striking feature upward phase propagation, implies undercurrent whose depth becomes shallower season progresses. There also instances when propagates downward. At two southern mooring Kollam cross-shore current, usually associated with eddy-like circulations, comparable occasions. comparison OSCAR (Ocean Surface Currents Analyses Real-time) product only similarities, but significant differences, particularly phase. One possible reason for mismatch between ADCP 48 m represents 0–30 range, vertical propagation. products Ocean General Circulation Models like ECCO2 (Estimating Climate Ocean, Phase II) GODAS (Global Data Assimilation System) weaker correlation does capture some observed variability.
