摘要: Advances in geographic information system (GIS) technology, developed by geographers, provide new opportunities for environmental epidemiologists to study associations between exposures and the spatial distribution of disease. A GIS is a powerful computer mapping analysis technology capable integrating large quantities (spatial) data as well linking with nongeographic (e.g., demographic information, exposure levels). In this paper we an overview some capabilities limitations technology; illustrate, through practical examples, use several functions including automated address matching, distance functions, buffer analysis, query, polygon overlay; discuss methods geocoding, often central epidemiologic research; suggest ways facilitate its future studies. Collaborative efforts epidemiologists, biostatisticians, scientists, specialists, medical geographers are needed realize full potential health research may lead innovative solutions complex questions.
