Daily and Monthly Death Pattern an Intentional Self-harm by Hanging, Strangulation and Suffocation in Korea, 2011

摘要: Background: The aim of this study was to examine the seasonal variation death from intentional self-harm by hanging, strangulation and suffocation (HSS: Korean Standard Classification Diseases-6 code: X70) using 2011 registry data. Methods: analysis based on data 8,359 HSS deaths national vital statistics in Korea. Daily, weekly, monthly pattern were used relationship deaths. Results: A total occurred 2011, with a mean age 50.6 years. rate (per 100,000) 25.5 male 10.8 female. In one day 17.6 males 8.0 females average. number per highest 8th June (45 deaths), lowest 1st February (7 deaths) during period. variations daily showed wide fluctuation peak 34 45 (29th May 9th June) trough 17-26 (10th-13th September: thank-giving consecutive holidays), 13-20 (2nd-5th February: new year’s lunar calendar) 8-9 (24th-25th December: Christmas holidays). There no significant difference between gender (month, season, week). Conclusion: (30.6 months January December (range, 19.4 19.6 deaths). more prevalent summer spring less likely occur winter. On Saturdays (21.0 lowest, Monday (27.9 highest. holidays (21.4 weekly (p < 0.01).
