Exploring the ethical basis for conservation policy: The case of inbred wolves on Isle Royale, USA

摘要: Data about values are beneficial for resolving disagreements over conservation policy choices because influence acceptance and compliance with rules. Empirical ethics integrate social science methods dilemmas to determine the origins of contribute new solutions debate. Using case genetically rescuing an inbred population wolves as a exemplar, we explored (1) ethical paradigms invoked in justifying choices; (2) objects moral relevance related (3) ascriptions responsibility action. Discussion board posts revealed diverse responsibility, strong tendency toward collectivism, associations between some paradigms. Conservation can help community better understand key human dimensions problems by providing novel diagnostic framework debate, structuring stakeholder engagement, informing evaluation.
