摘要: Background: Patients with type 2 diabetes have an increased prevalence of periodontitis and, in turn, adversely affects the diabetic status. Oxidative stress plays a key role affecting pathophysiology both diseases and adjunctive systemic antioxidant therapy may beneficial effect on treatment outcome. This study was planned to compare efficacy lycopene as adjunct scaling root planing versus alone chronic patients mellitus. Materials Methods: 40 subjects periodontitis, attending OP wing Department Periodontics tertiary referral care hospital were randomized equally divided into group A B. Diabetes status recorded per ADA guidelines American Academy Periodontology (AAP) guidelines. Group underwent administration 8 mg B treated alone. Clinical parameters like gingival index (GI), probing depth (PD), clinical attachment level (CAL) recorded. Serum markers, i.e. malondialdehyde (MDA) (TBARS assay) C reactive protein (CRP) (ELISA), glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels assessed at baseline months 6 post-therapy. Results: Inter-group comparison showed giving statistically significant results reducing mean serum MDA months, PD (mm) HbA1c (%) (P < 0.005). Conclusion: Lycopene effective oxidative restoring altered glycemic levels. Further longitudinal studies larger sample size are required establish management periodontitis.
